What can be recycled?

  • Clean, broken laboratory glass and broken bottles.
  • Domestic glass must not enter this stream as there is a large cost associated with disposal (domestic glass could be recycled at low cost).
  • Any contaminated glass should be disposed of appropritely depending upon the type of contamination.

Where do I put clean lab glass?

  • Stored in the red, broken glass receptacle in the lab.
  • Any contaminated glass should be disposed of appropritely depending upon the type of contamination.

Who empties the container?

  • Taken by a cleaner with responsibility to a store area (Blackett, SAF or Bessemer).
  • Lab bins are checked weekly and emptied as necessary.

What happens then?

  • A specialist contractor collects the glass for disposal.
  • Collections are made when necessary (arranged by the waste co-ordinator).

How Green is this Route?

  • The containers and carts are re-used.
